Environment

Actions to help preserve the environment include compensatory and preventative measures that demonstrate the commitment of Elfusa to the welfare of society as a whole.

The industrial facilities are equipped with an efficient system for the containment of pollutants and the residues resulting from production processes are recycled or used in other applications.

The company also maintains a program for the selective disposal of waste, which requires that all waste to be separated in seven different categories for reutilization: plastic, paper and cardboard, oil, rubber, wood, ferrous metals (iron and steel) and unusable “big bags”. More than 6.5 tonnes of these materials are sent each month to a cooperative that specializes in the recycling of waste.

The banks of the Jaguari river, which separates the industrial facilities form the Elfusa Recreational Club, have been the subject of an extensive process of reforestation. More than 2,000 trees of native species, such as the abiu, blackberry bushes, árvore-do-céu, cedar, ipê, inga, jacaranda, leucena, pau-formiga, pau-viola, jequitibá, mutambo, floss-silk tree, foxglove, guatambu and Paraná pine have been planted. The seedlings were donated by the Ciprejim, in São João da Boa Vista, and by Tarumã, which were also responsible for the reforestation of the river banks.
